CLUB YOUTH REPORT NOVEMBER 2019

Rotary Club of Merimbula have been busy with a number of events:

  •  We held Mock interviews at Lumen Christie Catholic College and at Eden Marine High School. These were worthwhile events and a great way to meet the future generation.  We interviewed some extraordinary young people who displayed great talent and future potential.

  • The Meccano project, held at Merimbula Public School with volunteers from Rotary Club of Merimbula has concluded its second term. This project has mentored children in building Meccano.  This has been a worthwhile project especially when you see the development in the children from the start to now in their interaction and skills.  The last session ended with some magic tricks and a gift given to the students for their commitment to the project.

  • Merimbula Public School Breakfast program came to a conclusion on the 18 Dec. This is another good program where children get something to eat before school. We have combined with Lions to share the load.
Both programs will continue next year.

  • Lion’s Youth of the Year program. We were invited to be part of the judging panel which interviewed for this competition on Tuesday 26 November. It is good to see the Clubs working together in different formats for the community. 5 students from 2 schools applied, the winner goes to the next level of the competition.

  • Our Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) nominee, Desiree Guerra, was accepted into the program,  held in Canberra  Jan 2020.  Desiree will shortly attend a Club Meeting and let us know what she learnt.

  • The Rotary Club of Merimbula have been asked to take part in the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship (RAIC) week in Canberra. This week-long annual event aims to give Year 11 Students an in-depth understanding of Australia’s Parliamentary democracy and what it means to be an Australian citizen.  More information will be available in December. Schools will be asked if they have a nominee to be funded by the club.
